Welcome to my small page of Linux stuff. This section of the web site is devoted to my thoughts, notes and workings on and with Linux. I've been a Linux user since 1996 and have been totally M$ Windows free since 2002 (that's when I finally talked my wife into letting me switch her computer over). Over the years I have run several different distros and have collected my thoughts on those into a summary page; see the links below to read all about it.

My Current Distro of Choice

I'm currently running a modified version of Mythbuntu/Xubuntu (see the Minimal Xubuntu entry below). I've been using an Ubuntu-based distro since about 2004. You can read all about my exeriences with these Ubuntu flavors on the Ubuntu page. More info on Ubuntu and it's various off-shoots can be found at http://www.ubuntulinux.org

Compiling On Ubuntu

I've compiled quite a few applications on Ubuntu rather than download them via the Ubunut repositories. My notes on these efforts can be found on my Compiling On Ubuntu page.

A Minimal Xubuntu

I'd been searching for a compromise between the complex and configuration heavy Slackware and the compact but fairly inflexible Ubuntu. Basically a minimalist Linux OS and GUI only install. Here's how I ended up making my own.

Past Distros of Choice

I've used quite a few distros in the past. For historical purposes, here's what I thought of them.
